Overview on Octane: Burn speed is a major difference. Race fuels are blended. There are two types for testing for Octane called AKI (Anti-Knock Index) and graded as (RON+MON)/2. If a fuel has a RON (Research Octane Number) of 96, and a MON (Motor Octane Number) of 90 its AKI would be 93. Race fuels can be graded on any of the standards AKI, MON, RON.
The desired burn rate in a Kart at 16k RPM is very different than the target burn rate of something like a big block V8 at 9k RPM. Too fast of a burn and you may experience less than optimum power. Too slow and your exhaust valves may be opening before maximum pressure is reached.
So what is octane and why is it important? Octane is what gives petrol its ability to resist pre-ignition. As displacement, compression, boost, RPM, go up it becomes harder to keep the fuel mixture from igniting prematurely. If under load or high heat, you experience knock with 87 octane, stepping up to 91 octane is logical step for both performance and longevity. If you experience no knock or timing pull at 91 there is no benefit to you stepping up to 93 or higher. The additives that raise octane have less energy than the base fuel, effectively lowering the BTU's of the fuel. That is you will make the most power and have the best fuel economy with the lowest octane that is capable of preventing knock under your specific conditions.

How Does Your Fuel Boost, Diesel Boost, and Fuel Tab Technology Work?
PLEASE NOTE THIS IS A VERY TECHNICAL PRESENTATION OF WHY OUR FUEL BOOST WORKS SO READ WITH CAUTION.....
Fuel Boost is targeted towards the BTU's of the diesel fuel: BTU: (British thermal units) – the amount of heat necessary to rise one (1) pound of water one (1) degree Fahrenheit) per gallon, they are able to deliver more power per gallon. This is critical to diesel engine fuel economy. A given fuel may meet 1D or 2D specifications, but if the Btu rating is too low, then decreased fuel mpg will be the result. This is the reason 1-gram of powder can treat 16 gallons for fuel or 1oz of fluid can effect up to 23 gallons of fuel. We did this by finding a compound that would make the diesel fuel burn more complete within the combustion chamber and allow the hydro-carbon of the fuel burn more complete: and at the same time without increasing the cetane of the fuel. The major problems with 99% of diesel engines on the market are related to fuel quality. Diesel fuel can vary from one shipment to another or from vendor three things that vary the most in diesel fuel are cetane, weight and viscosity.
Cetane: is defined as the susceptibility of the fuel to self ignites. Acceptable cetane levels are between 40 and 45; however, very few fuel distributors advertise this since each batch may be different. Cetane can influence both starting and combustion roughness of an engine. High altitudes and low temperatures demand increased cetane number of the fuel. Cetane can also cause issues within the combustion chamber. The higher the Cetane, the higher the EGT's (Exhaust Gas Temperatures). When reaching temperature of 1350 degrees F or higher, you can cause damage to the valves, turbo and other internal engine components.
The weight of the fuel or specific gravity plays a major role in the heat content of the fuel. Number 1 is a "lighter" grade while number 2 is "heavier" or weighs more per gallon. While the lighter fuel (#1) has a lower "cloud point" and may provide better starting in cold temperatures, the heavier fuel(#2) has better lubricating qualities and actually contains more heat units (BTU's) per volume. Assuming the fuels are the same price, better fuel economy is obtained by using #2.
The third aspect of fuel to consider is viscosity . Since "lighter" (#1) fuel is less dense it becomes thinner when heated than the heavier #2 fuel. When this occurs more fuel begins to leak through the high pressure parts of the injection pump which actually caused the injection pump to pump less fuel. As the fuel temperature continues to increase, more fuel is lost through leakage and this results in a power loss of between 1% and 7%.
Fuel Boost was designed to increase the lubricity of the fuel either in # 1 or # 2 formulations. With the sulfur being removed from today's diesel because of EPA regulations, lubricity is a major concern for all diesel engine owners. Fuel Boost uses a high quality base solvent that helps lubricate the fuel system and at the same time increase the BTU's of the fuel for a more efficient burn.
Using the guidelines from Gulf 76 Oil Company since 1977, our product showed performance in diesel fuels by using small amounts to achieve big results. The reformulation of the product in 2001 by using a filtered, refined Ferrocene proved to be more efficient and cost effective for the end user allowing us to go to market to the smaller retail users.
Using Ferrocene in Fuel Boost, an organ metallic compound with the formula Fe(C5H5)2 we target the BTU's of the fuel giving more energy and a more complete burn in the combustion chamber. It is the prototypical metallocene, a type of organ metallic chemical compound consisting of two cyclopentadienyl rings bound on opposite sides of a central metal atom. Keeping the hydrocarbons separated and controlling the atoms from forming a solid, Fuel Boost is very effective in small amounts. Finding the right carrying agent to move the Ferrocene throughout the fuel was the trick. Also finding a dispersant to move the product quickly throughout the fuel was also a key factor to the success.
Most companies making fuel treatments use to use Manganese, but since the EPA has banned this product, more and more fuel additive companies are going out of business. Ferrocene is regulated by two groups, one in Canada and one in the USA and the amount used has to be reported to the EPA annually.
How long will Fuel Tabs take to start working?
The products starts working immediately as it dissolves in the tank. It takes approximately 45 minutes to completely dissolve. The product will begin to remove engine build-up caused by incomplete burn. Within 3-4 treatments, there will be noticeable increases in fuel economy and reduction in emissions.
Will Fuel Tabs void the vehicle warranty?
The product in no way voids any vehicle warranties. The product has been extensively tested and found to be safe for all engine components including metals, rubber and gasket materials. Be careful about other products, though. Other products use harmful products like paraffin, chlorine and other chemicals that can slowly disintegrate seals and gaskets to achieve a temporary improvement.
How often do I put a Fuel Tab in my tank?
You add one tablet for up to 16 gallons during your fill up. For most automobile and truck tanks, you'll need only one tab per tank of gas or diesel.
How many MPG will I gain using Fuel Tabs?
The increase in MPG depends on several factors. Under monitored driving situations, there have been increases in fuel economy by as much as 15-20%. Some vehicles will see more moderate improvements. By and large, it is less expensive to add a Fuel Tab to the tank than not. You'll save money while doing something to decrease the amount of emissions that your vehicle generates.
Will Fuel Tabs work in any motor?
This product will work in any motor. We have tested this in trucks, cars, motorcycles, RVs, lawn mowers, as well as in heavy equipment, over-the-road trucks, and more. More and more stories are coming in from satisfied users who use Fuel Tabs in some unique applications.
Will Fuel Tabs work in bio-diesel?
Fuel Tabs work very well with bio diesel fuel. Significant reductions in NO2, NOX, CO, O2, emissions have been recorded. This product also keeps the temperature of fuel lower, which is better for the engine.
